22-year-old rookie QB, Brock Purdy, had a sensational start to his NFL career for the San Francisco 49ers. This Thursday, Purdy helped the Niners get their 10th victory of the season, which also helped them officially qualify for the playoffs. In that game, the rookie quarterback also created history and touched another legendary Packers’ record.
Notably, Purdy made 2 back-to-back starts for the Niners and they won both of them. The first game he started as a rookie was against the legendary Tom Brady and the Bucs, where he showed his tremendous talent. Now, his recent record may motivate him, even more, to do well in the future.

In terms of statistics, he completed 16 of 21 passes against the Bucs with a passer rating of 134.0. Against the Seahawks, he completed 17 of 16 passes and his passer rating was 117.0. In his first two starts for the Niners, he had over 115 passer ratings, 126.4 to be exact. Only the Packers’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, held this record previously in 2008 when he recorded a 115-plus passer rating in his first two games.
Purdy also recorded a 70% completion rate in his first two games as a starter along with four pass touchdowns and zero interceptions. Since 1950, he became only the third quarterback to achieve this record after Rodgers and Jimmy Garoppolo achieved this first.

Apart from that, Purdy also became the first quarterback to win their first 2 games since Colin Kaepernick achieved this feat back in 2012. It is worth noting that Purdy got this opportunity after the 49ers starting QB, Jimmy Garoppolo broke his foot during the Dolphins game. After replacing Garoppolo in the Dolphins game, Purdy threw 210 yards for 2 touchdowns. Although Purdy got an interception, he got the job done for the Miami side.
49ers head coach praises Purdy
In a recent interview with CBS Sports, the head coach of the Niners, Kyle Shanahan, said, “He’s definitely the most poised rookie I’ve ever had, He’s been like that since he’s gotten here. He’s been great and he was poised all week, even him being unsure of whether he would be able to go or not.”

The head coach also talked about Purdy’s determination to do well after getting the opportunity. Otherwise, coach Shanahan had one more backup QB, Josh Johnson in his hands. It seems like the coach doesn’t need to change their QB, as Purdy practically owned the QB position for the Niners in just two games. Many people even started comparing him with Tom Brady. Right now, only time will tell whether Purdy will ever become as great as Brady.
