Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has capitalized and built upon his opportunities on the field leading to growing comparisons of him with QB Drew Brees. While he has shown flashes of brilliance in his two NFL campaigns, the ceiling for Herbert has created believers in him being a future star. Among the recent believers in the up-and-coming QB’s talent is NFL analyst and host of The Ringer NFL podcast, Steven Ruiz.

During his recent appearance on the NFL Rhodes Show, Ruiz and host Lindsay Rhodes were sharing their admiration for their favorite NFL QB in Herbert. They were sharing how both of them were members of the quarterback’s virtual fan club. Rhodes and Ruiz also talk about their personal experiences with the Chargers shot caller.

The pair then move on to analyze Herbert’s game, with Ruiz believing that he has elements of legendary QB’s games. His elite decision-making and composure under pressure are signs of a top NFL quarterback.

On the podcast, while talking about the closest comparisons to Herbert’s abilities, Ruiz states, “I don’t think there is a quarterback out there like him. My comparison would be he’s like Prime Drew Brees if you gave Brees another 6 inches to his height and gave him a rocket arm.” He believes Herbert has come a long way by alleviating concerns surrounding him. Ruiz adds that he has adapted well to the Chargers’ offense.

The Drew Brees comparison is high praise for Justin Herbert

According to Ruiz, the Chargers QB has potential and was arguably the best QB in the NFL last season. The analyst fails to understand the concerns surrounding the young QB. The 1-time Pro Bowler will be entering his 3rd NFL season in 2022. While Herbert missed the chance of proving himself in the playoffs, Ruiz believes it was the Chargers‘ defense that let him down.
