There is already some speculation that Jeff Bezos is the frontrunner to buy the Washington Commanders. However, a former commander has emerged as a new potential buyer. Former quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted his intentions on Thursday, “already have 400 million in funds ready.”

Should Jeff Bezos be worried about the former quarterback?

Jeff Bezos surely has the head-start. The Amazon founder and billionaire is the owner of the Washington Post. Additionally, Amazon Prime Video acquired the broadcasting rights to Thursday Night Football recently. Ideally, Bezos shouldn’t feel threatened. Jeff Bezos was also seen at the Chiefs-Chargers game earlier this season with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder has hired Bank of America to underwrite the sale of the franchise. Snyder is open to all offers. That includes minority ownership or the entire team. And this is where Bezos and Robert Griffin III come in. RGIII tweeted to the Commander’s fanbase, “I’m down to pay for a stake in the team and bring 10 fans along for the ride.”

Jeff Bezos should not take the former QB lightly. Besides being a fan, Robert Griffin has broken quite a few records in his time. He was drafted by Washington when they were still the Redskins.

RG III became the first-ever rookie quarterback to win the offensive player of the week in his first week at the NFL. He also won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and excelled at both passing and running with the ball. However, his injury-ridden career forced him to be traded to four teams in the next decade.

Who holds the keys to the Commander’s future?

Dan and Tanya Snyder are looking for an out as soon as possible. After facing allegations of workplace misconduct, they may just be open to Robert Griffin and the chosen ten fans taking over. Robert has put up $400 million himself. However, Jeff Bezos’ offer might be better. Forbes puts Bezos’ present net worth at $112.8 billion. That’s considerably higher than what Griffin has offered.

The Washington Commanders have a tough task ahead. With the ownership changing hands, there are bound to be some adjustments in the organization. The Commanders are on a three-game winning streak. They beat the Indianapolis Colts in their last game and are currently 4-4 in the NFC East division. Washington sits at the bottom of its division and hosts the in-form Minnesota Vikings next.
