Aaron Rodgers has a lot to decide when it comes to his future in Wisconsin and in the NFL next year. After the Detroit Lions eliminated the Green Bay Packers in the final regular season decider, Rodgers is not sure if he wants to carry his journey on with the Packers. But some former iconic QBs don’t mind doing the unthinkable to get A-Rod.

One such legendary figure is New York Jets quarterback and Super Bowl champion Joe Namath. Broadway Joe doesn’t mind if the Jets bring back his retired heritage just to honour Aaron Rodgers if he comes to New York next season. Also, the Jets have a genuine QB issue.

A-Rod can keep the No 12 in New York

Jets icon Joe Namath appeared on the WFAN Sports Radio 101.9 FM/66AM New York to have a candid conversation with Tiki and Tierney. And Namath wants the King in the North to head over to the east. The Jets are not happy with the current Zach Wilson situation, making Joe’s wish a real possibility.

The New York Jets retired Namath’s jersey almost four decades ago. Joe and the Jets turned the fortunes of the AFC Conference, then called the AFL, after ending the dominance of the NFL and beating the favorites, Baltimore Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III. However, Namath doesn’t mind un-retiring the No 12 jersey for Aaron Rodgers.

I know Mr Johnson’s trying to get a quarterback, and if there’s a way he can get Rodgers.. I’m a big Rodgers fan. And I noticed that he wears No. 12 of course. So I’m thinking. Man, if we get him on our side, is he still gonna be wearing no. 12? Cause the number was retired many years ago. It’s on ownership. And its different ownership, it’s different people. If he’s there, yeah, I want him to wear his number,” Namath told the hosts.

Aaron Rodgers received a lot of flak for believing in himself

Namath’s wish may remain unfulfilled because of a little $99.8 million situation for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers will have to pay the cap penalty if they trade or release Aaron Rodgers before June 1. However, the Packers also have a list of additional demands to fulfil for A-Rod before he even contemplates a return to Lambeau.

However, it doesn’t look like the reigning back-to-back NFL MVP is eyeing retirement any time soon. Aaron Rodgers believes he still has it in him to win another MVP trophy next season, be it with the Packers or someone else. And the Cheeseheads and NFL experts pounced on Rodgers for his misdirected focus on the MVP and not the Lombardi Trophy.

Namath clearly doesn’t care what A-Rod is setting as his goals, as long as the 2011 Super Bowl MVP’s next destination in the league is his New York Jets.
