San Francisco 49ers are planning to move forward with QB Trey Lance as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. But they have still not decided on the role of QB Jimmy Garoppolo, and he seems to be stuck on their roster. However, Garoppolo might have a landing spot at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to an NFL Insider, Dan Sileo, Tampa Bay Buccaneers might offer a deal to Garoppolo as the backup to the starting quarterback, Tom Brady.

Sileo said, “I know Don Yee very well, Don Yee is the representative for Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo. That so-called angst between them in New England was made up by the media. Those two guys are dear friends. The animosity was more toward Bill Belichick than it was toward Garoppolo. Brady and Garoppolo text each other all the time and are friends. They have the same agent. Those two guys are in constant communication.”

It will not be the first time we might see the two on the same team.

Jimmy Garoppolo served as a backup quarterback to Tom Brady during his time at the New England Patriots

In 2014, the New England Patriots drafted Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 draft. He spent the four years playing as a backup to Brady until he joined the San Francisco 49ers. He was a part of the Patriots when the team won the Super Bowl in 2015 and 2016. Garoppolo had said that he enjoyed every bit of his game with the Patriots, which led him to where he is today.

This offseason, the 49ers quarterback underwent a shoulder injury that affected his potential trade. Recently, Baker Mayfield moved to Carolina Panthers, thus securing his position as a starting quarterback after months of confusion. If there is any other big name that remains unclear about their position is Jimmy G.

The question remains, will Garoppolo want to play as a backup quarterback? If Jimmy G is looking forward to joining the Buccaneers, he would have to get released by the 49ers or accept a huge pay cut. He will play for a team who lets him start the games, but if he is going to miss the entire season, then the Bucs’ offer seems legit.
