Stefon Diggs has been a prominent weapon for the Buffalo Bills for the past two seasons. After the Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen, was given a contract extension the previous year; a permanent receiver was necessary for the team to execute their long-term ambitions.

It was a great Wednesday morning for Stefon Diggs to get a massive contract extension for four more years. At the same time, his NFL future gets some clarity in terms of salary and a permanent spot on the roster for the upcoming six seasons.

Stefon Diggs vows to play the rest of his career with the Bills

Unless the Buffalo Bills officially release him, Stefon Diggs will have a permanent stay for the upcoming six seasons. That means till the 2028 offseason, Diggs won’t be a free agent, searching for another team in the league. By the time he would be 34, a considerable age for an average wideout to retire from the NFL.

Meanwhile, the star wide receiver acknowledged the possibility and thanked the Bills Mafia for giving him this opportunity. “There was so much work put in to get to this point, but I am beyond happy to know that I will be playing the rest of my career with BILLS MAFIA. Words cannot describe how I’m feeling right now,” Diggs wrote in his Instagram post.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Diggs signed a four-year, $104 million contract extension with the Buffalo Bills. The receiver will also earn $70 million in terms of guaranteed money, making him the second-highest receiver in the history of the NFL to achieve this feat. The average annual value of the contract is $26 million per season.

The other prominent receivers to have settled in similar deals are Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams. The Miami Dolphins signed Hill for four years, $120 million making him the highest-paid WR in the NFL. On average, Hill is expected to receive $30 million in salary. For the next six seasons, Diggs remains tied with the Bills for a contract that values $124.1 million in the total salary cap.

Stefon Diggs made his entry into the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. He got selected in the 5th round of the 2015 NFL draft. Having played there for five seasons, the Bills acquired him in March 2020 in exchange for four draft picks, including a first-rounder. In the next two years, Diggs caught 230 passes for 2,760 yards and 18 touchdowns. His 2020 season included career and league highs with 127 receptions, 1,535 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns.

Even the general manager of the Bills acknowledges his importance to the team. “I think what he’s brought to our team has been great. He’s been great for Josh. He’s been great for our offense, and his leadership has stepped up, and we want to see Stef in Buffalo for years to come.” Brandon Beane recently said about Diggs.
