The Kansas City Chiefs have started their season just as they did for the past few seasons. However, after losing many key players, it could’ve been. Reports have now come out that after losing Tyreek Hill, the quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, rolled up his sleeves to revamp his receiving options.

It is now being reported that Patrick Mahomes was playing a key role in the offseason for his team. According to multiple sources, as soon as the player got to know about the possibility of a Tyreek Hill trade. He personally started calling and convincing other wide receivers to join the team. In an article by The Athletic, an insider discusses Patrick Mahomes, and central role this offseason.

How Patrick Mahomes helped recruit players

Even though that the Chiefs signed, Juju Smith-Schuster, before reading Tyreek Hill. It’s now coming forward that Patrick Mahomes started trying to recruit him right after learning about Hill’s exit possibility. The Chiefs signed the former Pittsburgh Steelers slot on a one-year deal worth $3.76 million deal.

After trading Tyreek Hill to Miami in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick, second-round pick, fourth-round pick and a 2023 fourth-round pick and sixth-round pick in March. They turned their attention to former Green Bay Packers wideout, Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Reportedly, he was not looking at Kansas as a possible landing spot. Patrick Mahomes got on a call with a player to personally convince him to join the squad. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is on a three-year deal worth up to $30 million.

Off to a great start

The Kansas City Chiefs have been a consistent a super bowl threat. Making 2 super bowls in the last 5 seasons. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has built a great partnership with Coach Andy Reid and star TE Travis Kelce. Even though Tyreek Hill has been one of the greatest deep threats in the league. His absence is not being rued too much.

In week 1, the Chiefs ran Rampant with their offense. Scoring 41 against the Arizona Cardinals, where Kelce led with a whopping 121 yards. Week 2 saw a much closer match-up against their divisional rivals, Los Angeles Chargers. Patrick Mahomes and company were able to win the game 27-24 courtesy of a late interception that came in the late 4th quarter.

It certainly looks like the team is still right in the mix of another super bowl contention season. It is still a long season and it replacing someone like Tyreek Hill is not easy. The new receiving corps will have to step up in as neither of them have had a great game yet.
