Just a short while ago, the drama that involved Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers came to an end. The Packers finally ended up trading the veteran quarterback to his desired location, the New York Jets. Since then, he has taken to social media to showcase how much happier he is in the Big Apple. Furthermore, his arrival in New York also ended up costing a little lesser than one would’ve thought.

While the Jets did pay an interesting price for the QB, it was lesser than what one would’ve expected it to be. However, the deal didn’t meet the Packers’ expectations, as they were expecting a deal similar to one of the biggest trades in NFL history.

It is obvious that Rodgers is one of the most sought-after QBs in the league right now. He has been compared to some of the greats of the game. Therefore, it would make sense that the Packers were expecting a huge trade in exchange for bringing him in. Furthermore, it would be a logical conclusion to draw that the Jets would be ready to pay so much for their so-called ‘missing piece of the puzzle’. As per New York Post, the Packers were looking for a deal similar to the one the Seahawks got for Russell Wilson.

However, it seems like the Jets weren’t ready to give up first-round picks, even for a player like Rodgers. The teams finally settled on a 2023 first-round pick (No. 13), a 2023 second-round pick (No. 42), a 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207), and a conditional 2024 second-round pick. Even though this is an amazing deal, the Packers weren’t able to get the huge deal they wanted for Rodgers.

The Russell Wilson deal that broke records

The Packers wanted a deal as big as what the Seahawks received for Wilson. They got quite a lot in return for sending Wilson to the Denver Broncos. The deal that was signed contained a huge haul of draft picks, as well as three different players. The Seahawks got 2 first-round picks as well as 2 second-round picks. Furthermore, they also brought in tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris and quarterback Drew Lock as a part of the deal. This truly is one of the best deals a team has gotten for a player. It is pretty obvious why the Packers would want a deal like this. Alas, they weren’t able to obtain a deal anywhere close to this.

Even though they weren’t able to get a deal as close to the one the Seahawks got for Wilson, the Packers were still able to make some great picks in the draft due to this trade. Only the 2023 season will reveal who actually won the trade between these teams.
