The drama surrounding Cleveland Browns has a new update that could cripple the roster. QB Deshaun Watson became a subject of debate after multiple cases surrounding misconduct flared up among the public. Even though he settles with a new franchise, the troubles do not seem to go easily. New updates suggest Watson’s talks could hit a bump after NFL retorts his settlement offer.

Cleveland Browns began their offseason with extreme dilemma after they and Baker Mayfield had problems. It eventually came down to replacing their QB1 with Deshaun Watson. His deal created history. However, the franchise had some more troubles after the legal issues surrounding the QB came up.

ESPN Insider Dan Graziano gave out some details on the Deshaun Watson-NFL situation. Both parties engaged in additional settlement negotiations in recent times. However, neither of them felt they have come any closer. The league counters Watson’s settlement and wants to implement a lengthy closure with a hefty fine.

Graziano Tweets, “Per sources, Deshaun Watson and the NFL did engage in further settlement talks in recent days, but neither side felt they got close. The best Watson’s side indicated it would accept was 6-8 games. Best league indicated it was willing to do was 12 games + heavy fine $8 mil range).”

The NFL Insider adds that the league is no longer pressuring on an extended absence with the option to apply for renewal until a specific stretch of games. However, the massive fine was the tradeoff, and Watson/NFLPA refused.

Deshaun Watson settles some lawsuits

Deshaun Watson had 24 lawsuits against him that became the talk of the town. But twenty of the 24 entities who sued Deshaun Watson lodged notices of dismissal to the court. In a recent update by Ari Meirov, Attorney Tony Buzbee claims the Cleveland Browns QB has attained private settlements with three of the remaining four civil lawsuits that were registered against him.

As per USA Today Sports, the residual claimant was the first to sue Watson. The plaintiff was also the first to emerge forward openly in March 2021. Although two Texas grand juries turned down to pursue charges against Watson, the NFL is investigating probing if he breached the conduct policy. The league will reportedly reveal its decision public on Monday.
