Saquon Barkley might be on his way out. The Pro Bowl caliber Running back is reportedly done with the New York Giants and demands a trade out of the Big Apple. Barkley has been a high-octane performer for a sorry franchise. His time in New York only shows fans that he can play well anywhere.

But by himself, he can’t do everything on the football field. Barkley has been a big part of the Giants’ team. The franchise cannot ignore his popularity amongst the fans. Yet, they were the ones that initiated trade talks.

Giants ignited the trade fire

The New York Giants’ GM Joe Schoen said that the team is open to trade talks. And everything is on the table, which presumably includes Saquon Barkley. Well, that won’t go down well with any star player, would it?

The Giants face an excruciating cap situation in this off-season. As per ESPN, they exceed the cap by $11 million this season.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, the new Giants GM said, “We’re still working through that, but I’m open to everything… Like whether it’s trading player for player; I’ll listen to anybody. If it’s trading a couple players — I’m not going to say the entire roster, [that] we’re open for business on the entire roster. But if anyone is going to call and they’re interested in any of our players. I’m certainly going to listen.”

After the news broke out that it is open-season at the Giants’ roster, rumors started going around. A self-proclaimed NFL insider said that the Running Back is looking for a trade. He is unhappy with the franchise and does not want to “fight for a lost cause” anymore.

Some argue that this is the best course of action for all sides involved. Ex-NFL QB-turned Analyst Don Orvolesky said“Saquon is still a tremendous talent. But the reality is that Sequon has missed 20 games. As a tailback in the NFL, that doesn’t happen. In those three seasons, he has rushed for a total of 1,600 yards. That’s just not good enough. Now, I understand that’s with a bad offensive line. But that offensive line is not automatically getting better this year. So, figure out if you can get trade value for him.”

For Giants fans, it has to be a sadder-than-usual day. They probably know what they have signed up for is one of the most difficult fan bases in sports. Yet, it hurts when such a high-level contributor decides to leave.

Although, his performance has certainly dipped after his pro-bowl debut season. The offensive line has also struggled ever since and injuries have prevented Barkley from replicating the success of the first season.

Maybe with a new team and a better offensive line, we will see the former number-2 overall pick get to the pro bowl level again.
