The news did break courtesy of the NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. He reported that both Allen and the franchise had an agreement on the terms on Monday evening. But his 8-28 win-loss record is coming to doubt the logic of his hiring as the new Saints head coach. The Saints hierarchy does have a big job on their hands, with Allen and GM Mickey Loomis figuring out how to fix things. The franchise currently sits $76 Million above the salary cap limit and looking at bringing it under control. Allen will have some major decisions to make including who will be his QB1. He will have to choose between either Payton’s favorite Taysom Hill or whether they want to bring Jameis Winston back in 2022. He also has Ian Book at his disposal as a third QB option. Winston will be coming back from his ACL injury, and it will be a big decision for Dennis Allen as an incoming head coach.

The only certainty for the Saints will be their defensive unit entering the 2022 NFL season. A big question will be whether Allen handles both the defense and offense for the Saints. He will have the option to delegate one of the duties to a coordinator. It is a big job that lies ahead for Allen with success becoming the primary and immediate focus.
