Originally known as the Boston Braves, the Washington Football Team found its grounds in 1932. The Boston Redskins renamed themselves to Boston Redskins in 1933 and retained that name until 1936. After moving to Washington D.C. in 1937, the Boston Redskins changed their name to the Washington Redskins.
The franchise continued to operate with the same name until 2019 when they were forced to give it up. Indigenous Americans in the United States consider the term ‘Redskins’ a derogatory term. As a consequence, the team in 2020 adopted the temporary name Washington Football Team. The team will be adopting a permanent name next week on February 2nd.
