For the last couple of days, the NFL world kept vigil, praying for the recovery of former Running Back Peyton Hillis following a swimming accident in Pensacola. It turns out the veteran is out of danger, and the latest updates shared by his girlfriend clarified his current condition.

Last week, Hillis caught the headlines for miraculously saving his kids from drowning in the ocean. Although he succeeded in his mission, the former athlete took the ultimate risk and damaged his internal organs in the attempt.

He was hospitalized instantly and remained in the intensive care unit. But now the situation has improved. NFL analyst Dov Kleiman shared the news on Twitter, mentioning that the former NFL star is on the road to recovery.

“Great News: Former #NFL RB Peyton Hillis is ‘on road to recovery’ after the accident in which he rescued his kids from drowning. Hillis was in critical condition and remained in the ICU for an extended period. Peyton is now off the ventilator and doing better, amazing!” he wrote.

Indeed, it happened to be a dramatic situation, and Hillis’ health worsened in the initial stages of treatment. As a result, he got admitted into a ventilator after being helicopter to the hospital.

On Jan 4, the 36-year-old risked his life and jumped into the ocean. He defied riptides with the sole motive of rescuing kids. He suffered kidney and lung damage. It took no time for this incident to spread like a wildfire, and fans started flooding social media handles praying for the star. After learning the positive news, his girlfriend, Angela Cole thanked everyone for their unwavering support.

“Please continue to pray for he’s still got a ways ahead of him, but thank you for all of your prayers and love and support thus far. It truly makes all the difference“, she wrote on Instagram, sharing some old photos of their relationship.

The former Broncos star got selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played through the 2014 season, recording 2,832 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns. Hopefully, the veteran gets well soon.
