The Cleveland Browns’ QB1 dilemma is not getting closure. Deshaun Watson still got some troubles despite the six-game suspension ruling. The NFL appealed to stringent Watson’s punishment, which could lead to an updated sentence. However, new developments suggest that the Browns QB1 is ready to take up an extended game suspension and heftier fine.

New claims by Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press suggest Deshaun Watson is ready to accept an eight-game suspension and a $5 Million fine. The proposed termination would keep him out of just the first half of the season, and he is ready to agree to a lesser settlement. However, the NFL’s appeal to reinforce the sentence could keep him out for a year, which could cripple the franchise.

While the league believes that the evidence against Watson sets up for a 17-game suspension, Roger Goodell mentions the “Multiple violations that were egregious.” The NFL also seeks a substantial fine of more than $5 million. They also want Watson to go through expert medical assessment and treatment before being allowed to return to work.

The Associated Press mentions, “The biggest question is whether the NFL would make this compromise. A settlement has always been possible, but it’s not clear if the sides are in active discussions.” The Watson case now lies in the hands of Peter C. Harvey, a former New Jersey Attorney General selected by Goodell last week to manage the appeal. Harvey could choose to act at any moment.

Despite facing a suspension, Deshaun Watson would make his world premiere for the Browns in their preseason opener against the Jaguars on Friday. Cleveland fans in attendance might see their new quarterback compete against the Jaguars.
