Tuesday was the deadline for all players to report to their respective training camps. For the Bengals, who are coming off a successful season under the leadership of Joe Burrow, it is now essential to maintain the streak. However, the LSU alumnus couldn’t participate in the practice sessions as he was undergoing an appendectomy. Although the surgery went well, he is expected to stay away from the field for a few more days.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport was the first person to break the news. “[Bengals] QB Joe Burrow is undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, source said. He’ll miss some practice time but better now than later.” He wrote on Twitter. The surgery for the removal of his appendix happened on Tuesday.

The following day, head coach Zac Taylor gave an official confirmation that the procedure went extremely well, and he was scheduled for a discharge the very same day. However, there is still uncertainty over Burrow’s arrival on the field. Taylor also revealed that despite being hospitalized, the 25-year-old was busy attending the meetings and planning the strategies.

“He’ll still have his iPad. He’ll still follow whenever he’s in meetings. We don’t expect him to miss a step, mentally, that way..” he said to the reporters. After being selected as a first overall pick by the Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft class, Joe Burrow has proved to be an asset for the franchise.

For the athletes, Tuesday was the last day to report to their camps. However, Burrow and other quarterbacks arrived on Saturday, to train alongside the rookies. But that was when Joe Burrow felt some discomfort, and he was taken to the hospital. Although fans are still worried about his health, the Bengals head coach seems unfazed and believes this is an opportunity for backups Brandon Allen and Jake Browning to take the charge.

“It’s a good chance to really get a chance to see them, evaluate them, let them work with some other guys, and then we go from there,” the coach said, per the WahingtonPost. “And when Joe comes back, obviously, he jumps into those reps. But those guys have to maximize those opportunities they’re going to get,” he added.
