The San Francisco 49ers’ 2021 NFL season ended with a tough loss to the LA Rams in the NFC Championship. As a result, this sparked rumors about Garoppolo’s future with the 49ers. Additionally, speculation is rampant that Trey Lance will take over the veteran quarterback’s role. Nevertheless, Adam Schefter has an entirely different view on the Niners trading Jimmy Garoppolo.

Schefter told Ari Meirov, “I’m just telling you that Trey Lance was probably further behind than people realized. Trey Lance is greener than people realized. Trey Lance is going to need more work than people realized. And they have a roster that can win now.”
Adam Schefter believes that Garoppolo can give the Niners another shot at winning the Super Bowl in the 2022 season. Moreover, as far as switching from Garoppolo to Lance is concerned, Schefter believes it would be too sooner and possibly a bad move for the team.
Jimmy Garoppolo is the 49ers’ key to success
Garoppolo led the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC championship game as their primary quarterback. He recorded 3,810 passing yards for 20 touchdowns in the 2021 regular season. In addition, he threw for 535 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason.
Despite losing to the LA Rams in the NFC title game, the Niners didn’t have an entirely disappointing season. Further, Garoppolo has led the 49ers to two NFC championship games in the 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons, as well as one Super Bowl game in the 2020 season.

Schefter’s remarks cannot be denied
Adam Schefter’s opinion on trading Garoppolo and giving the entire on-field responsibility to the rookie is indisputable. Additionally, Booger McFarland, the ESPN analyst, said only a few days ago that Lance hasn’t proven anything from a quarterback standpoint, nor from a health standpoint.
.@ESPNBooger says he's "terribly" concerned for Trey Lance 👀

As such, Schefter offering a similar argument should be enough to persuade the Niners to examine Garoppolo’s scenario patiently. Therefore, now that the off-season is fast approaching, it will be interesting to see if Garoppolo remains with the Niners or is transferred.
