The 2020 NFL season ended on a sour note for the Matt Nagy-led Chicago Bears. They suffered a 21-9 defeat at the hands of New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round earlier this year.

Apart from the Bears defense led by Khalil Mack, another player who impressed last season was experienced wide receiver, Allen Robinson.

The 27-year-old ended the regular season with 1,250 receiving yards on 102 receptions, including 6 receiving touchdowns.

Robinson arrived in Chicago 3 years ago on a $42 million contract. The former Jacksonville Jaguars man has been a mainstay in the Chicago Bears offense over the last couple of seasons.

However, he will be a free agent this summer. What lies next for Robinson? Will he return to Chicago or look elsewhere for a new challenge? Here’s what a leading NFL reporter has to say.

Should Chicago Bears sign Allen Robinson on a long-term deal?

Reputed NFL reporter Jonathan Jones urged Bears coach Matt Nagy and their management to move quickly and tie Robinson down to a long-term extension this summer.

He even went on to add that Robinson has a better offensive output than 2019 OPOTY Year, Michael Thomas. “I would pay Allen Robinson, I’d take a time machine hop in the door and I would have paid him last year…

“This guy always produces, he is an absolute machine. We don’t talk about him as a top-six or seven, wide receiver in the NFL, because he’s always normally on losing teams, and has not gotten that big contract to sort of bolt him into so many of those national headlines, but he’s right there.

“I think that he’s a more complete wide receiver than Michael Thomas, frankly. And so I would absolutely try to intend to some sort of four-year deal that’s going to average out $19-$20 million per year, you’re going to want to get his number low this season so that you don’t have to tag him…but yeah, it’s time to pay Allen Robinson,” Jones said on the CBS Sports telecast.

In 43 NFL starts, Robinson has 3,151 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns for the Bears since 2018. The NFC North franchise will have to put up the big bucks in order to tie Allen down to a long-term deal.
