Former NFL franchise Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner will be playing for another season in the league following the emergence of recent reports. The veteran LB might be heading to the Charm City and joining the Baltimore Ravens as the player is locked in talks with the franchise. The reports suggest that the franchise has made a competitive offer against the reigning Super Bowl champions, Los Angeles Rams.

While the interest in Wagner is considerable, he will be seeking a price of over $10 million a year as a free agent. If the Ravens want to acquire the WR, they would have to clear some salary-cap space. The franchise can easily make it work by restructuring some of the big contracts on their books.

Even Josina Anderson of USA Today on Tuesday reported that they are in negotiations.

It seems Wagner might have found an admirer in Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. While talking during the owners’ meeting on Monday, he states, “We never really comment on who’s visited or hasn’t visited and those kinds of things in free agency, but Bobby Wagner’s out there. We’re looking at everybody. I can’t sit here and say we’re not talking about or to Bobby Wagner.

What does Bobby Wagner bring to the table?

The Seahawks might have moved on from Wagner too quickly for anyone’s liking as he came off of another Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection in 2021. He did end up recording 170 tackles, three quarterback hits, a sack, five passes defended, and a forced fumble last season. The veteran LB also has the most tackles, with 1,383 in the NFL since being drafted in 2012.

Wagner is also the only player in league history who has recorded 1,300 tackles, 20 sacks, 10 interceptions, and 50 passes defended in his first 10 campaigns. While he might come at a high price, he might be the answer for a defense that has added Marcus Williams.

As several players recover from an injury-ridden season, the Ravens’ front office with GM Eric DeCosta will be keen to add Wagner.

The signing is a no-brainer for the Ravens and can be a smart tactical move. But they might face tough competition from the Rams, who won’t be allowing any competing franchise any opportunity to strengthen themselves. It sure looks like a fight to the end, and Wagner might be the one enjoying the spoils at the end of it.
