Baker Mayfield could be on his way out of Cleveland next season. The franchise has signed former Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. They offered him a blockbuster deal. The Browns want Watson to be their starting quarterback. On Thursday, Mayfield requested a trade. It is clear that he has no intentions of playing for the Browns next season. 

There are some potential teams in the market still looking for quarterbacks. We can see them lineup to get a deal for Mayfield. Some teams can really use the experience of the veteran quarterback.

Since the Cleveland Browns made their return to the NFL in 1999, they have used 32 different starting quarterbacks. That is a record in the history of the league. One of those quarterbacks was Baker Mayfield. It has been a minute since the Browns have won the AFC title. Their playoff record is not the greatest. The team drafted Mayfield in hopes of making a change. It did not really go the way they hoped.

Baker Mayfield was the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft. There weren’t any trophies that he hasn’t won. The future seemed very bright for the young man. Cleveland was happy to add him to the roster. Mayfield was a superstar in college. 

On his debut, the athlete brought Cleveland their first win in 19 games, ending a 635-day streak. He also set a rookie QB record for passing touchdowns. In 2020, Mayfield led the Browns to their first playoffs win since 1994. Unfortunately, injuries have hindered the progress of the star quarterback. He missed a lot of games last season due to a shoulder injury. Later on, he had to undergo surgery to repair the torn labrum. It ended his 2021 season. 

What’s next for Mayfield?

The Cleveland Browns will not be moving forward with Baker Mayfield as their franchise quarterback. They have signed a hefty deal with the controversial Deshaun Watson. The franchise wants to move forward with Watson as their starting shot caller. 

Mayfield has asked for a trade. Some possible teams the QB can go to are the Indianapolis Colts. They need a quarterback. The Seattle Seahawks need one too, after they just traded Russell Wilson. There are a couple of teams who could not acquire Watson. The New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers. They both could make offers on Mayfield this offseason. It will be exciting to see where the quarterback will play next season.
