A few days back, the Carolina Panthers announced the departure of their star quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Now, the Rams announced the signing of Mayfield, which shocked everyone. Notably, Mayfield has been pretty poor this season, as the Panthers are also having a forgettable season. On the other hand, last season’s Super Bowl champion, the Rams have plenty of injury concerns, which probably forced them to make this signing.

Notably, the Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford will most likely miss the remainder of the season due to a spinal cord contusion. So Mayfield will certainly have some game time under the head coach Sean McVay. However, NFL fans, particularly the Rams fans, bashed the franchise to sign Mayfield.

Earlier, the official Twitter handle of the Rams revealed the jersey number of Mayfield, as he will wear the number 17. Immediately, fans started mocking the jersey number and trolling the QB as well. One person on Twitter wrote:

One more fan also thought that was a weird number on him. Then another Twitter user joked about the number being his passer rating.

One particular fan literally booed him on Twitter.

Another Twitter user thought he was not a good QB and was very unreliable as well.

On the other hand, the 49ers have opted out against signing Mayfield and chose to continue with a rookie after their star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending injury on his foot.

So, fans made fun of the Rams for that as well.

Another fan mocked the Rams for acquiring Mayfield.

One more Twitter user trolls the Rams for picking Mayfield out of all the quarterbacks.

Meanwhile, a few fans also showed some support for the quarterback and want him to figure things out with the Rams and Sean McVay.

One more fan wished him well for the rest of the year.

Another Twitter user felt this was a good signing for the Rams and praised Mayfield as well.

With Stafford out, possibly for the remainder of the season, Mayfield has a good opportunity now to showcase his football prowess. Moreover, the Rams will most likely miss the playoffs as well after a horrendous season. So, there will not be any extra pressure on the 27-year-old quarterback.
