The New York Jets have been in negotiations for the contract extension of their defensive tackle for approximately two months. According to a report by the NY Post, Quinnen Williams had previously expressed his desire for a contract extension by April. Williams has been a standout player on and off the field, and he requested that the organization show its support by offering him a new deal before the offseason program.
However, Williams did not report for the start of the Jets’ offseason program on Monday, as he has yet to sign a new contract. In a recent post on Twitter on April 18th, a user mentioned this All-Pro player as a ‘man of his word’ who won’t attend voluntary workouts without a new contract.

Jets All-Pro achiever Quinnen Williams is currently due to make $9.59 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal in 2023. However, with the ongoing drama surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the Jets since March, the team’s focus has reportedly shifted to landing a trade for the quarterback, which may have sidelined the matter of Williams’ contract extension. Now Quinnen signifies straight, no new contract, and therefore no voluntary workouts.

Previously, Williams had hinted that his agent would be responsible for handling the negotiations, and he had declined to disclose his desired terms for a new contract. “I definitely have faith in them,” Quinnen previously mentioned in a media interview.

Many fans called for the team to “pay that man.” It’s worth noting that on March 12, the Jets agreed to a three-year, $18 million deal (which could max out at $21 million with incentives) with Quincy Williams, Quinnen’s brother, who had played alongside him for the past two seasons and posted consecutive 100-tackle seasons.
