Matthew Stafford had a Cinderella run to the Lombardi Trophy last season. He went through a monumental change and came out on the other side, a champion. So when Matt Ryan had to move from Atlanta and he faced existential questions, he called up his quarterback friend Stafford. To ask him about the dread of moving to a new place after an awfully long time at your original one.

Colts new QB Matt Ryan was on the Pat McAfee show, talking in-depth about his move and his second NFL destination. Before he arrived in Indianapolis, he was nervous about moving to a new team after 14 years. So he reached out to Stafford, who had recently gone through the same thing.
A Matt Stafford Analogy for Matt Ryan
Ryan narrates their conversation in McAfee’s Studio, “I’m kind of good buddies with Matt Stafford. So when everything went down, I called him and said, hey what can you expect? What are some of the things you’re gonna go through? And he was like, ‘Dude, it really feels like, you’re 14 years old and you’re going from like 8th grade or whatever and you’re going to that first year of high school, where you’re a little bit nervous.

And you’re trying to show out, show off a little bit. Whatever, you know trying to fit in. All those different things.’, and honestly it does feel a lot like that. You’re getting to know new people, you’re making new friends. You know, you’re trying to get along with buds.”

Ryan used Stafford’s analogy to navigate his way through the new world. And he says that whatever he has seen up until now, the QB has liked. With Jonathan Taylor behind him and a stacked O line, he has a great year in front of him.
A new journey for the Veteran Quarterback
He also talked at length about his time in Atlanta, the exit and how it felt to leave a place after 14 years at Atlanta. He even said that the people he met in Atlanta are going to be life long connections for him.
But his move to the Colts has been a welcome change for him. The roster is stacked, and with him at the helm they can create some serious damage in the division. Talking about the supremely talented offensive line, Ryan says, “You talk about the O line, i get in this place, we are lifting weights this time of the year, and I’m like, “Holy Sh*t, These Guys Are Big. And not like big and soft, they are like big and ripped! That makes me feel real good.”
