It seems Kyler Murray has been doing his “homework” by calling plays as a responsible quarterback. Murray was seen wearing the hat of the head coach in their first preseason game against the Bengals. Not only did he guide the offense but also helped the team come out victorious by a margin of 36-23. After bagging a huge deal during the offseason, this was Murray’s first game on the field, and certainly, he was successful in impressing Kliff Kingsbury.

The 25-year-old signed a five-year, $230 million contract with the franchise, making him one of the highest quarterbacks in the NFL. He was offered, a huge signing bonus and guaranteed money, keeping him intact through the 2028 season. The Oklahoma product was seen taking responsibility on his shoulders on the sidelines during the game.
Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury reportedly assigned the signal-caller to call some plays toward the end.
While speaking at the press conference after the game, Kingsbury said he was impressed by Murray’s leadership. “I think we went three-and-out on both of them. So, less than I anticipated,” Kingsbury said with a laugh.

“No, he called a couple of really nice plays. It just didn’t work out. Had some guys open. He does a good job with it. I’ve been impressed.” He added. However, it seems the massive transition took place after Murray nodded to a homework clause in his agreement.
What does the homework clause imply to Kyler Murray?
It’s no biggie that Kyler Murray is one of the emerging talents in the league. And that is the sole reason why he was offered a contract that earns him $46.1 million per year on average. This puts him just behind the Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers who will earn $50 million on average.

However, there was a hidden homework clause folded with the contract. A clause that no one had ever heard before with special responsibilities assigned to the signal-caller. According to the reports, Kyler Murray will have to give extra four hours of self-study apart from mandatory meetings and training sessions.

Moreover, during this period, Murray isn’t allowed to reserve time for his matters, including playing games or practicing other recreational activities. In the coming days, it will be interesting to see how feasible this clause becomes when it is taken into practicality.
