Every team in the NFL relies on their marquee quarterback or quarterbacks in the case of San Francisco 49ers. The tussle of the prestigious QB1 spot is still going on full steam, as both Brock Purdy and Trey Lance are set to make their return to the big stage. While these two players are looking forward to their eventual return, the San Francisco front office has added another NFL veteran to the mix, and maybe this could be the tipping of the scales.

Purdy is coming off of elbow surgery, while Lance hopes to make his eventual return after an ankle injury ended his 2022, almost before it started.

During the post-draft press conference, 49ers GM  Kyle Shanahan could not escape the inevitable question, “What about those 49ers’ quarterbacks?

To which Shanahan replied, “We’ll be alright, though, in the offseason and when we get to training camp, Hopefully, we’ll get Brock back soon. Regardless, we’d love a fourth guy here. You never know how much you’ll end up doing in OTA sessions.

Turns out Shanahan is a man of his word as recent reports suggest that the San Francisco franchise has added another quarterback to their ranks.

According to NFL Insiders, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, former Cincinnati Bengals QB, Brandon Allen, is headed to San Francisco 49ers. The past three seasons Allen had taken up more of a mentorship role, constantly having Joe Burrow’s ear to whisper words of wisdom. The same would be expected of Allen as he enters a locker room with three promising but inexperienced quarterbacks Brock Purdy, Trey Lance, and Sam Darnold.

Additionally, the inclusion of Brandon Allen would provide insurance of sorts to the 49ers, with Purdy and Lance both being injury prone. But is Brandon Allen up to the task?

Was Brandon Allen the right choice?

During his three seasons with the Bengals, Brandon Allen had a mere six opportunities as starting quarterback, and five of those ended in defeat. Ever since his entry into the NFL four years ago, Allen appeared in just fifteen games, throwing for 1,611 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

But the 49ers don’t actually expect Allen to start a game or carry the team on his back. Allen’s role would be of an adult in the room. With three young quarterbacks trying to carve their names in 49ers history, Allen is expected to help them grow and hopefully get to the same level as Joe Burrow.
