As the tight end market is looking fuzzy this time with players like David Njoku, Dalton Schultz, and Mike Gesicki signing a franchise tag, the Cardinals made a bold decision to retain their TE with a handsome deal of $31.65 million for 3 years.

The three-time Pro-Bowl star is known for his unbelievable gameplay and the atmosphere he brings to the team. With a team sticking to a young quarterback Kyler Murray, it is essential to have a veteran on their side.

Zach Ertz : A formidable TE

Ertz has always been a valuable asset in the world of the NFL. After playing for the Philadelphia Eagles for 8 seasons, the Cardinals made a deal with the star in 2021. In his entire career, Ertz was entitled to three Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl title for the Eagles. His NFL career began with the Eagles in 2013 and later secured a 5-year contract with them in 2016.

While he was procured by the Cardinals, Ertz was already a star player. It was the first time since 2018, he played the entire season in 2021 which is also a record. He featured in just 11 games and made 56 receptions for 574 yards and three touchdowns down the season.

Past Records of the veteran

Ertz is one of those tight ends in the history of the NFL, who could make an impact on the field. The Superbowl winner made 579 receptions for 6,267 yards and 38 touchdowns in 123 games for his team Philadelphia Eagles. All these records prove how significant a role he plays for the team and why teams should try for him. But considering the current situation, he wouldn’t have received a better deal than this. He probably wanted to stay with the team and the Cardinals ensured he received good compensation. It’s yet to see what he brings in this year. However, his presence will ensure stability in strategically building the team.
