The 2021 NFL Draft will be held between April 29th – May 1st, 2021. One of the talking points in the build-up to this year’s draft was the acquisition of the 3rd overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers from the Miami Dolphins. The Niners parted with three 1st round picks and a 3rd round pick in exchange for that privilege.

Since doing so, the 49ers have been linked with possible moves for Justin Fields (Ohio State), Zach Wilson (BYU), and even Trey Lance (NDSU). But another name to pop up on that long list of talented young quarterbacks is reigning CFP National Champion, Mac Jones.

Will the San Francisco 49ers move for Mac Jones this summer?

NFL insider Adam Schefter joined the “49ers Talk” podcast with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco on Sunday. The ESPN reporter was the latest to suggest that GM John Lynch and the San Francisco 49ers are deeply invested in Alabama star, Mac Jones.

He said, “You go back to that one general manager, his exact words were, he’s got elite accuracy, he’s an elite processor and he’s got elite leadership skills.

“Those were his exact words. He said that he is higher on draft boards, more highly rated than fans believe he is.

“So I like to go to people whose opinion I respect, ask them their opinion and see what they say. And what I’ve heard about Mac Jones so far is pretty strong, pretty favorable,” Schefter said on the podcast.

The 22-year-old Mac Jones concluded his final NCAA season throwing for 4,500 yards with 41 passing TDs against just 4 interceptions. He impressed during his recent Pro Day showing. That event was attended by 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan.

But the Red and Gold continue to be linked with Ohio State’s Justin Fields. He is reportedly the perfect candidate to fit into Shanahan’s offense.

Dubbed the perfect ‘system quarterback’, Fields was in contention to join the New York Jets as the 2nd overall pick this summer.

However, it now appears that Zach Wilson is now winning that race. One way or another, we can’t wait to see what the 49ers do with their 3rd overall pick. What do you think will happen? Tell us in the comments below.
