For Jalen Carter, justice has been served. The 5-star NFL draft prospect has finally been sentenced for his role in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two team members. Carter has pled no contest and will now face 12 months of probation, and a $1,000 fine. The Georgia State defensive tackle will also be required to complete 80 hours of community service and attend a state-approved defensive driving course.
Carter is considered by many to be the top defensive player in this year’s draft class. He is seen as a consensus top 3 pick by many in the upcoming NFL draft. With the severity of the case against him, the major concern for many scouts is the possible penalty that could be put on the DT. Although for Carter, as he has not been drafted as yet, the league certainly can’t take action against an undrafted prospect.

The crash that occurred on January 15, led to the tragic death of Carter’s teammate Devin Willock and Georgia football staff member Chandler LeCroy. Carter and his attorney have claimed that the accident was not caused by driving of the National Championship winner.
Carter’s attorney has released a statement following the sentence. “We are happy that we were able to work with the solicitor general’s office to reach a resolution that was fair and Just based on the evidence in this case. Mr Carter continues to grieve for the loss of his friends and continues to pray for their families, as well as for the continued healing for injured friends,” he said, as per mirror.co.uk.
Police reports have stated that Carter was involved in a street race with his fellow team members. The charges against him include reckless driving and racing on highways and streets. The investigation into the case has determined that alcohol impairment, racing, reckless driving and speed were major causes of the accident.

How will this affect Carter’s draft standings?
Since Carter isn’t an NFL player yet, the league is unlikely to be able to take action against the DT. But the controversy has marred the Draft Prospect for many scouts and fans. Although Carter still remains one of the best that have entered the draft in a while, his disciplinary action has been of much controversy.
