Dak Prescott will play on his $34.1 million franchise tag this season. The Dallas Cowboys man failed to reach an agreement with franchise owner Jerry Jones and Co. before deadline day. The Cowboys had offered Dak a four-year contract but the quarterback wanted a shorter deal of around three years.

Patrick Mahomes’ mega-money contract will no doubt be at the back of Prescott’s mind heading into the 2020 season. This will be a crucial year for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and analyst Skip Bayless pointed out the one key thing that Prescott must do in order to bag a long-term contract with the Cowboys.

On Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, the hosts weighed in on the rumors surrounding Prescott’s delicate situation with the Cowboys.
“Bottom line – There’s only one way Dak Prescott now is going to retire a Dallas Cowboys. That is in the next 2 years, he has to lift this team to a Super Bowl.
“If he does that, I believe he will get the long-term deal up in the Mahomes range somewhere. I believe he would get that but he’s going to have to do that [win a Super Bowl]. Obviously, the odds are not with Dak,” Bayless said.

The 26-year old quarterback was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year back in 2016. He has also made the Pro Bowl team on two occasions. Dak posted 4,900+ yards last season with 30 TDs as the Cowboys ended the season with an 8-8 record.
He will certainly have to take his franchise one step further if he wants a Mahomes-type deal in the next few years. The arrival of CeeDee Lamb will certainly give Dak an extra attacking option moving forward. Can Dak lead the Jerry Jones-owned Dallas Cowboys to the promised land?
