Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett was due to shake things up this year in the 2023 NFL draft class. However, he has landed himself in some legal pickle after his recent intoxication incident. And new reports have emerged to shed some light on the events of the night.
The 25-year-old quarterback led his team to back-to-back National Championships. And after deciding to enter the pro league this season, Stetson decided on a night out. However, it didn’t go as planned as the Texas police arrested him for public drinking. And Bennett even tried evading arrest at one point.

According to the Dallas Police department’s incident report, as per The Athens Banner-Herald, cops detained ex-Georgia QB Stetson Bennett in the early hours of the morning on January 26 this year. This was after the police received complaints about Bennett going around and knocking on people’s doors.

When the authorities arrived on the scene, Bennett tried hiding from them. Stetson was “walking further back in the gated area to hide behind a brick wall by a random (apartment) in an attempt to possibly avoid (the arresting officers) detection,” according to the reports. The signal caller claimed that he was in the area to visit a friend. However, Bennett could not provide an address or number to contact said friend.

The police feared criminal harm to Stetson Bennett and detained him for his own safety, after smelling alcohol on his breath. Bennett wasn’t the only Georgia Bulldogs to get arrested recently. Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson also faced legal trouble after reckless driving and racing in the city last week.
Does this impact the QB’s draft order potential?
Stetson Bennett is known for making his way through adversities on the field. Only a walk-on during his initial stint at Georgia, Bennett served as the Bulldogs’ backup until 2021. And he got the starting job in classic Tom Brady fashion after the then-starter JT Daniels suffered an oblique muscle injury. The rest is history as Bennett led the Bulldogs to a 33-18 win over Alabama to claim the National Championship, and followed it up with another title last year.
Along with Bryce Young and C. J. Stroud, Bennett is one of the most talked-about QB prospects in the upcoming batch. However, many think there’s a chance he might go undrafted.

With multiple NFL teams like the NY Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and the Panthers, looking for a quarterback, going as a late pick in the fifth or sixth round isn’t off the table for Bennett. And Stetson is putting on his best show at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis right now.
