Brock Purdy had a dream start to his NFL career after going on a seven-game winning streak into the playoffs this year. Sadly, the San Francisco 49ers‘ season run came to an end in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Purdy holds no grudges.

The 2022 season’s Mr. Irrelevant and last draft pick turned himself into ‘Mr. Relevant’ after stepping in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. And, while Purdy regrets not making the Super Bowl in Phoenix this year, his surgery and recovery from an elbow injury will keep him busy during the off-season.

Purdy met up with Rob Maaddi during the Super Bowl LVII week proceedings and had a chat about the last season and his health. And it’s difficult to mention the season and not bring up the quarterback crisis for the Niners in their final game of the season.

With Jimmy G and Trey Lance already on the injury list, Brock Purdy’s injury in the first quarter put the wrench into the entire offensive work. Purdy got hit on his throwing elbow by Eagles pass rusher, Haason Reddick. And that was it for the Niners. Josh Johnson, the fourth-string choice, came in but also got concussed during the game. And the ‘Fly Eagles Fly’ chants only made things worse for the Bay area.

It was electric. I’m not gonna lie. They wanted their Eagles to win. They are gonna say and do things to try to help out their team. But that’s part of the game. Honestly, I love going into environments like that. Played in a bunch of environments with 90,000 plus in college. But going into that one was special cause whoever won was going to the Super Bowl. Just sucks that we weren’t able to compete like we wanted to because of the situation at quarterback,” Purdy told Maaddi.

The QB’s surgery update is not so worrisome

The final pick of the 2022 NFL draft reversed all expectations when he took the NFL stage by storm. However, a potential UCL injury brought his season to an end against Philly. But, luckily for Brock, things aren’t as bad as they looked.

Brock will have surgery to repair his UCL in two weeks. However, it won’t be the more serious Tommy John surgery usually reserved for more serious cases demanding a considerably longer recovery period. This will schedule his return by August, a month before the pre-season kicks off. And Brock can start throwing in 3 months.
