NFL veteran Shannon Sharpe’s theory is tantalizingly intriguing as he suggests Lamar Jackson’s possible frustration with his contract situation. As the news of Philly QB getting a massive contract went out, fans were worried about what would Lamar Jackson do now. Could Jackson be lamenting what could have been, pondering the possibility of a bigger payday if only he had taken a different approach to contract negotiations?

However, Sharpe’s suggestion, Jackson may be looking at Jalen Hurts’ recent contract extension and feeling a pang of regret for not securing a similar deal earlier. He paints a picture of Jackson comparing his own situation to Hurts’, who was able to secure a substantial amount of guaranteed money with his new deal.

Jalen Hurts had one more year left on his contract, plus the option for two more years of franchise tags. Sharpe noted that Jalen Hurts’ new contract includes a significant amount of guaranteed money. It includes $110 million guaranteed at signing and another $16 million guaranteed by March 2024. Sharpe views this as a good deal for Jalen Hurts, as he will earn this for playing only 17 games.
