The Pittsburgh Steelers had an exit that one would like to forget quickly. The 42-21 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs means they have to re-look at things. It also serves as a culmination to Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger’s later years with the franchise. His performance dipped, to say the least, although it was fun to watch the sheer brilliance of his physicality and intelligence on the field even if it was in bursts only.

The Steelers certainly have a lot to decipher during the off-season. Speculation directs that at the top of their requirement list is a quarterback. Although the outgoing GM said that Mason Rudolph will start for the Pittsburgh Steelers if the season were to start Monday. As per the outgoing GM Kevin Colbert, The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a quarterback or two actively.

As of now, if they are unable to find a suitable player for the QB spot, Matt Rudolph will be the starter. And Dwayne Haskins will be the backup QB.

Pittsburgh Steelers have ‘some’ faith in Rudolph

Talking to Joe Rutter on the situation of the QB position, Steelers GM said, “If we come out of this period without a quarterback, we will have somebody else because we will have four,” Colbert said. “We know we will add to the position. I can’t tell you how at this point. But if we had to start the season today with Mason — let’s go.”

Rudolf will enter his fourth season with the team. As Colbert pointed out, “He’s 5-4-1 as a starter. We’re excited to see what’s next for Mason.”

Rudolf has 16 TDs and 11 interceptions. That doesn’t shout starter immediately, which could be a reason they are aggressively looking for a QB.

But their other current QB option, Dwayne Haskins, also has a reputation for putting the ball at risk. The Steelers GM believes Haskins has the potential to evolve as a starter. He said, “We’re excited to see what Dwayne can provide. Through competition, maybe he evolves as a starter. None of us knows at this point.”

The GM firmly believes that the team will add personnel to the QB room. Colbert is hopeful for the upcoming season and said, “It will be a great training camp for those two and for whatever player we are able to add to the mix.”

Colbert and draft success

Steelers announced an odd timing for the exit of their GM. Kevin Colbert will leave the season after the current draft day. And the reason might be that the Steelers drafted some terrific players under his leadership.
