Tom Pelissero, of NFL Network, gave the news that Number 23 was indefinitely out. The timetable for his return is yet to be determined. The comeback time will vary depending on how intense the laceration is.

However, Pelissero reported that the injury won’t end the season for the safety and it does not require any surgery.

Philadelphia Eagles’ safety took a brutal hit

In the first quarter of the Sunday night game, Gardner-Johnson had slammed in the middle of the field with the Packers WR Christian Watson.

The injured athlete hunched over in pain. The medical staff then took him to the locker room. After he left the field, he did not return. Reed Blankenship, an undrafted rookie of the Eagles, played as the substitute. He intercepted Aaron Rodgers in the second quarter.

Although Blankenship gladly replaced Gardner-Johnson, his loss was devastating for the Iggles. He tops the list in interceptions. In total, he has six and is one of the top players in Philadelphia’s defense.

More information about the injury the Eagles’ safety suffered

As many as three NFL players hurt their kidneys every season. Gardner-Johnson isn’t the first player to suffer a lacerated kidney. In fact, Eagles TE Zach Ertz did not take part in a game in 2019. And in 2015, two players from the Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers suffered lacerated kidneys one week apart.

The ribs, a layer of fat, and another protective layer protect the kidneys. So, when a person experiences blunt force trauma, like an accident or sports injury, the jolt can force a cut in the kidney. Although lacerations can cut in-depth, many are not that deep and they do not knotty the uterine collecting system.
