After the Super Bowl LVII loss to the Chiefs in February, the Philadelphia Eagles are making it their mission to fill all the loopholes from last year’s roster. The most obvious first step this off-season was the extension of franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts. Once they made him the highest-paid NFL athlete, albeit temporarily, the Birds looked at other places to improve. The organization made another offseason move this week as they added more depth to their tight-end department.

Former Saints, Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars offensive gun Dan Arnold joined the nest from the list of free agents. Arnold will have to fight for his spot on an already TE congested Eagles roster. However, the 28-year-old brings with him a unique dual-threat talent that could prove to be the missing puzzle for Nick Sirianni.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the city of brotherly love will welcome the veteran 6-foot-6 240 pounds tight end on a one-year deal. The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed. Dan Arnold will add to an arsenal that already houses Dallas Goedert, Jack Stoll, Grant Calcaterra, Dalton Keene, and Tyree Jackson. Besides Goedert, the rest will have to fight to secure their starting spot.

In 59 career regular-season games, the tight end from Wisconsin–Platteville had 95 catches over 1258 yards, including 7 touchdowns. Arnold enjoyed his peak at Arizona when he caught 4 touchdowns across 31 passes and 438 yards in a single season in 2020. He joined the Carolina Panthers in 2021, catching 28 throws over 324 yards. 2022 was the second year in a row for Arnold without a touchdown as he played 17 games as a reserve tight end for the Jaguars. He only had 9 catches over 135 yards in the last season.

However, Dan Arnold is also a special team force to reckon with, which adds to his value tremendously. Arnold can help in kickoff and punt coverage and return teams. Given that the Eagles suffered in that department last season (Philly’s 26.13 yards kickoff return average was the third-highest in the league), his addition will be a boon in every way. Also, his touchdown drought will surely end once he connects with Philly’s newly extended dual-threat quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Arnold also has a special cross-sports trait that can help Jalen Hurts even more

The Eagles signed Jalen Hurts on a 5-year $255 million extension mainly because of his passing and running abilities. Well, he has some significant help in the running department now with Arnold’s addition. The undrafted free agent was also a track star in college. Arnold competed in the 110-meter and also won the 2016 NCAA Division III runner-up award in the 60-meter hurdles. Added to an offense already comprising WR speedsters A. J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the 2022-23 NFC Champions look deadlier than ever.

Hurts and Arnold will look to build on that chemistry as the franchise heads into the rookie minicamp and OTAs. Will Philadelphia claim the Lombardi with all the off-season preparations and acquisitions?
