The underdogs beat the reigning Super Bowl champions by a field goal during the 2023 kickoff. Certainly, the absence of star tight end Travis Kelce did sway the odds slightly in favor of the Detroit Lions. Yet, it remains a remarkable feat that a team that failed to make the playoffs last year emerged victorious against the Super Bowl Champions, that too on their very own turf. Even though Detroit didn’t secure a postseason spot last year, it’s worth noting that, their previous season matches included, they have now triumphed in nine out of their last 11 games.

Chiefs’ defeat was rather “embarrassing,” as pointed out by the star quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the game. But winning a game or not, he sure did win hearts both during match time and after. An adorable moment was caught on camera that depicted the 27-year-old interacting with a young Chief’s fan.

Fans greeted him along the way, shook his hand, and congratulated him on his stellar performance. Right before he left the field he was met with a father-son duo. The interaction that followed between them has left the internet flooding with comments of approval and appreciation.

As Mahomes approached the little boy dressed in a Kansas City Jersey, a matching red cap, and a backpack, he held up his hand offering Mahomes a red wristband. Mahomes smiled, accepted the token of appreciation, and in return handed him the official match football that he was carrying. The look on the boy’s face stole the show, as he first looked at the star quarterback in utter disbelief and then shifted the gaze to the ball he received from the sports star. Mahomes still smiling patted his shoulder affectionately before shaking the father’s hand and proceeding to leave.

Fans were quick to share their reactions to the gesture, with someone saying, Patrick is a stand-up guy. Always has a heart of gold,” while someone said, “Awwwwwww!! Mahomes history of ball exchange with fans

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was recently engaged in a charity golf game in July. Midway through the course a young fan was pelted by a ball swung by Mahomes. The quarterback was quick to apologize and offered to make up for the damage caused, “I’m going to sign a ball for you, my man,” Mahomes said. Hurt or not the fan is sure to remember and recite this incident for a lifetime, and even have proof in the form of an autographed ball.

Patrick Mahomes might have lost his first match of the season, but he sure won plenty of hearts. The loss was not particularly Mahome’s fault either; he recorded a pretty great personal performance. There were numerous instances of missed passes throughout the game, including, for instance, one of Detroit’s touchdowns which came as a result of a pick-six on a pass intended for Kadarius Toney. The throw that was targeted at Toney, eluded his grasp and found its way into the hands of rookie Brian Branch, who then returned it for a touchdown, tying the game at 14 points for Detroit.

On record, the Chiefs recorded four drops, but many other passes could have been easily intercepted. As fans applauded Mahomes’ generosity many called out the team’s outrageous shortcomings suggesting,See how easy it was for the kid to catch that ball?”.
