Injuries are an inevitable aspect of the NFL training camps. As a result, none of the franchises seek to risk their starters ahead of the season. But in the case of Kansas City, the situation is much different. The camps have already begun in full swing, and the teams are gearing up to play in their preseason games. It turns out the Chiefs are deploying the gunslinger, Patrick Mahomes, in their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Although the Chiefs’ quarterback room is pretty deep, it seems Mahomes wants to try everything he showcased in the recent practice sessions. The preseason opener is on Saturday, and the Chiefs will be traveling to face the Bears. Meanwhile, head coach Andy Reid announced that each signal-caller will play for one quarter, including Mahomes in the first place.

While reacting to the statement, per reports, the former Super Bowl Champion revealed he wants to enter the field before the game gets serious and experience what it’s like to get hit again. “I like to get in there and get hit one time. Once you get hit one time and kind of see what it is to get hit again as a quarterback, you’re kind of good to go,” he said to the reporters.

Patrick Mahomes is always known for his unorthodox styles and fearless gameplays, scrambling all over the field. Although trick plays are not new to him, the Texas product was recently practicing some backward slings and incredible left-hand precision throws.

The Chiefs will play their second preseason game on August 20th against the Washington Commanders and the final game against the Packers on August 25th.

After giving a brief stint as the head coach for Chicago Bears for four years, coach Matt Nagy has returned to Kansas City. He is currently working as a quarterback coach, referring to the franchise as a “special place.”

“It’s very welcoming, said Nagy of the Chiefs’ fanbase. “It doesn’t surprise me. They’re very passionate. They love their football. We had some great times here, and great experiences. The last four years here of me not being here and what coach [Andy] Reid, [Brett] Veach, Patrick [Mahomes] and [Eric Bieniemy] and the rest of this crew have done is nothing short of amazing,” he added to his explanation.
