Patrick Mahomes has been extremely vital in the building of the closest thing the NFL world has to a dynasty at present. In the last five years, with the QB at the helm, the Chiefs have been to three Super Bowls, winning two. His most recent win came at this year’s big game, which was celebrated in style. Mahomes is arguably one of the best in the league and he still has a long way to go. His success in the NFL prompts all sorts of questions. But when it comes to doing his due diligence ahead of games, the QB credited one person.

Andy Reid has laid a firm foundation in Kansas City. His impressive resume speaks for itself. One would expect Patrick Mahomes to attribute some of his success to his head coach’s leadership. As it turns out, the individual in question is not so mysterious after all. 70-year-old Bill Belichick is perhaps one of the most accomplished coaches in the NFL. Responsible for building the Patriots dynasty alongside 7x Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, he’s a known legend in the game. But how was Mahomes impacted by the Pats’ head coach? While Mahomes never played for Belichick, he played against his squad. Speaking on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, ‘New Heights,’ he revealed what led him to begin going into games with an ironclad strategy.

He said, “I played the Patriots in New England my first year, and they were doing like this weird, we call it like the 40 up front, where they don’t really have a true nose guard. They kind of have double splits. They have linebackers kind of playing like D linemen and some of that stuff, I remember being back there like, ‘I have no idea what to do to get these five guys blocked.’” After encountering this dilemma against New England, Mahomes learned from this experience.
