While Mahomes never played for Belichick, he played against his squad. Speaking on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, ‘New Heights,’ he revealed what led him to begin going into games with an ironclad strategy.

He said, “I played the Patriots in New England my first year, and they were doing like this weird, we call it like the 40 up front, where they don’t really have a true nose guard. They kind of have double splits. They have linebackers kind of playing like D linemen and some of that stuff, I remember being back there like, ‘I have no idea what to do to get these five guys blocked.’” After encountering this dilemma against New England, Mahomes learned from this experience.

Showing his gratitude for Bill Belichick, Mahomes attributed his preparation to his experience with the head coach’s squad.
