Patrick Mahomes is not the one to give up on a fair chance to win games for his team. Throughout his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, he established himself as a force to reckon with. However, there is one loss in his career that haunts him to this day and he wishes he could change that moment in his life. But it will remain with him for the rest of his life. Mahomes reflected on this loss in a recent interview.

In the last season, the Chiefs were well on track to secure their third straight appearance in the Super Bowl. The chiefs were 18 points ahead of the Bengals in the AFC championship game’s first half. However, a second-half debacle kicked the Chiefs out of contention for a Super Bowl encounter against the Rams.

Reflecting on the loss that haunts him, Mahomes said, “The second half of that game: I don’t want to say we relaxed, but I mean when you lead like you did, you want to make sure you win the game, but you don’t want to play like you’re playing not to lose. And I feel like that’s what we did. As a team, we were playing not to lose, we were playing just to get to the Super Bowl.”

He added, “If you look, they didn’t do much different from the first half to the second half. We just didn’t execute at a high enough level. They were playing the same coverages; we weren’t executing. Then momentum gets in the other team’s favor and when you’re playing a good football team, bad stuff happens.”

How Patrick Mahomes is preparing for the NFL 2022 season?

Mahomes prepares for a different lineup this season as his star WR is now with the Miami Dolphins. Without Tyreek Hill, the QB would feel that the offensive lineup is not as strong as before. However, he knows how to build a strong team in a must-win situation.

All in all, the Bengals loss still haunts the Super Bowl-winning QB. He wishes the team performed with the same force in the second half as they did in the first half. Nonetheless, he has another chance this season but with a slight change in the lineup.
