Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is undeniably the best QB in the league at the moment. Many will even argue that he is on his way to becoming the next GOAT of the game after 7X Super Bowl champ Tom Brady. Both these players were not considered to be significant assets coming into the league. Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2000. But Brady has already established his legacy in the NFL by winning 7 Super Bowl rings in his 23-season career before retirement. And Mahomes is in the process of writing his own success story, with two Lombardi trophies already in the bag. But, there are more similarities between the two than that.
Apart from this, Patrick Mahomes also carries a winning mentality just like Brady. He is not greedy for money and wants the overall development of his team to win more championships in the future. His latest announcement is just another testament that he’s following the GOAT’s footsteps in the league.

The 27-year-old had signed a 10-year $450 million contract extension with the Chiefs back in 2020, which was a record-breaking contract at that time. But this year saw two more QBs signing blockbuster deals with their teams. Jalen Hurts signed a five-year $255 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, while Lamar Jackson signed a five-year $260 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens. This means that despite winning two Super Bowls, Patrick Mahomes sits at the seventh position in average annual value. But for the 27-year QB, his priorities are bigger than just earning money.
#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was asked about his contract and how so many other QBs have passed him:
“I worry about legacy and winning rings more than money at this moment.”
“I’ve made enough money where I’ll be set for the rest of my life.”

During a recent press interview, the 2X Super Bowl-winning QB said that his key priority is winning more trophies than earning money. He felt that making more money would mean his team will have to sacrifice talents on the field for him to play with. And Mahomes understands the importance of having a good team in the NFL. He said, “I know we keep communication. We see what’s going on around the league. But at the same time, I’ll never do anything that will hurt us from keeping the great players around me. It’s about teetering on that line.”For Mahomes, it seems that adding more championships is a priority than earning big bucks in the league.

A legend in the making after Brady
After winning the Super Bowl LVII with his team last season, Patrick Mahomes has become the only QB in NFL history to win two league MVPs and two Super Bowls in the first six years of their NFL career. Just like Brady, Mahomes’ focus lies on winning more Super Bowls with his team.
During his playing days with the Patriots, Tom Brady took a minimum salary so that the team can focus on building around him. This meant that the team could focus on using the cap space to sign more talents to surround him on the field. This led to him winning six Super Bowl champions during his 20-season stint with the Patriots. And just like him, Mahomes is also concentrating on the holistic development of the team under HC Andy Reid, in order to become the next GOAT of the game and dethrone Brady’s legacy.
