Patrick Mahomes got a question about his actions that got the Chiefs a penalty against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game last week. A reporter asked him during the pre-Super Bowl press conference if he sold the hit on him through acting.
The Chiefs QB’s facial expressions changed multiple times, indicating he did not like the question. Nobody in his position would. But Mahomes then gathered himself to give an unperturbed response to the reporter.
“Yeah, I think it was more — the most pain I had was stopping — but once he pushed me it would have been hard to put my foot in the ground and try to stop. So, I kind of just, I rolled through it,” Mahomes tried to explain his position. The league MVP front runner also said that he was trying to save himself and people on the bench from getting hurt.
“You get over there with the heaters and the benches and people, that’s where a lot of times people get hurt, and I think that’s the reason there’s a flag for getting pushed out of bounds like that late. And so, once I got pushed, I just tried to roll and try to not hurt people [on the sideline] and not hurt myself,” the QB added.
Mahomes would like to leave behind what happened in the past, including such absurd allegations and focus on the Super Bowl. The Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The QB is in fine form this season. And he is just getting warmed up.
