The Super Bowl LVII ended on Sunday, with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs emerging victorious against the Philadelphia Eagles. After also being named the Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes is cruising his way to becoming one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game. In his surprise appearance on the night of the Super Bowl win, the MVP shed some light on his ankle injury.

Despite sustaining an injury and limping off the field, the young quarterback needed only a halftime rejuvenation before coming back and finishing the job handed over to him.

Patrick Mahomes addressed his ankle injury on the Jimmy Kimmel Show

After less than 48 hours of the Super Bowl game, Patrick Mahomes relinquished sleep to come on the Jimmy Kimmel show to talk about the Sunday game. On the show, Kimmel said that if it was a movie, the ankle would have been a plot device to make the win more exciting. Mahomes gave a prompt response to the comment, stating, “We battled through. It was a great team win against a great team and the ankle kind of put a hiccup in the game plan. But we were able to get it done in the end and come out as Super Bowl Champions.”

Furthermore, Mahomes also said that he felt his team was losing momentum in the game. After having a monotonous first half, it was clear that he was far from his typical performance. The ankle injury sustained did not help the situation as well.

But after receiving treatment and fresh ankle taping, Mahomes came out a different species in the second half. He reminded his team and the world of why they were in the Super Bowl.

Mahomes is on his way to being a legend in the making

In the second half, Mahomes came back with more fire in his soul, and the hunger of a wild animal in the forest. The distance between him and a Super Bowl Championship was just 43 yards. With no one to throw a pass to, Mahomes took off running and got a 26-yard gain for his team.

For the Kansas City Chiefs to find their inner champion, maybe that moment of doubt was necessary. Beautiful things come out of difficult situations, and Mahomes and his team were a prime example of this on Sunday. Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. The Chiefs had prepared well, and successfully met them along the way.
