Kansas City Chiefs and GM Brett Veach are going all-in on the greatness of their superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs GM believes he is the centerpiece of all their plans, and the offseason departure of wide receiver Tyreek Hill will only mean a new way of winning. There is greater reliability from the organization on their star man, who is the core of this franchise for many years to come.
During a Pre-Draft news conference, Veach was talking about the Chiefs and their strong winning mentality while stating, “I think—and I’ve said this before—when you have Pat Mahomes, I think we’re wired to go after it every year. Just because you trade away a great player doesn’t mean we’re in a rebuilding mode by any means. It just means we’re going to find a new set of resources and try to become aggressive.”

The big money trade to the Miami Dolphins saw the franchise receive five draft picks for their electrifying WR Hill. He signed a 4-year, $120 million contract with his new team as the Chiefs enter a new era for the upcoming season. However, losing Hill would not stop the Chiefs, who ended up signing two talented wideouts, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, in free agency.
Patrick Mahomes remains the constant presence for the Chiefs
The former Super Bowl champion will have all his offensive line back, with Chiefs TE Travis Kelce stepping up to take a bigger role. Last season, Kelce was impressive and ended up with 92 catches for 1,125 yards and 9 TDs. The 7-time Pro Bowler will relish the opportunity to have a greater effect on games this season with Mahomes throwing passes.

While they will lose their defensive juggernaut in safety Tyrann Mathieu, they have made some additions to cover that loss. The acquisition of an up-and-coming linebacker, Nick Bolton and 3-time Pro Bowl DT Chris Jones will be keen to fill that void.
It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs adjust to all these new players in all areas of the field.
The 2022 NFL campaign will bring its own set of challenges for the team, but with Mahomes dictating play, a Super Bowl appearance is a real possibility. The Chiefs Nation will turn up in numbers to support and cheer them on to improve on a rare off-year in 2021.
