Patrick Mahomes talks about the Chiefs’ special team’s performance against the Colts
After the week 3 game, Mahomes talked about his growing pain and the performance of the special team at the press conference. He said, “I mean, I’m not expecting any growing pains… You obviously have new players. You know how everybody’s gonna respond in tough situations. You know we can learn from it. For me, I’m always going out there with the expectation that we are gonna win.“
During the matchup, the special team players made some glaring mistakes, which proved costly for them in the end. Early in the game, Skyy Moore, Chiefs rookie, muffed a punt as it slid through his hands while he was trying to grab it. This missed opportunity lead to a Colts touchdown early in the game.
Chiefs backup kicker Matt Ammendola played the game replacing an injured Harrison Butker. Ammendola missed his first kick and missed an extra point. In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs had the chance to go 20-13 from 17-13. However, Ammendola missed a 34-yard field goal, which proved costly for them, as the Colts managed to score a game-winning touchdown.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, they tried to attempt a fake field goal, which was a bad mistake. Although it looked like a good attempt, Tommy Townsend’s pass did not reach tight end Noah Gray, which fell on the ground and became incomplete.
