Everything was going perfectly for the Las Vegas Raiders. They were in the middle of a perfect rebuild and brought in the veteran presence of Jimmy Garopppolo to replace the fading Derek Carr. With Tom Brady taking over a minority role in the ownership, the team was perfectly set up for their future leading into the 2023 season. Suddenly, their entire plan got tilted upside down.
The Raiders had found their star acquisition of the offseason when they picked up Jimmy Garoppolo for a 3-year $67.5 Million contract. With Garoppolo and Davantae Adams at their core, the team was well-prepared for a run into the playoffs. But after reports emerged early last week about Jimmy G’s failed physical for the team, their entire plan is now in jeopardy and the onus of fixing the problem might come down to Tom Brady.

After announcing his retirement from the league earlier this season, Tom Brady picked up a role in the ownership group for the Raiders by claiming a minority stake in the $5 Billion franchise. But in the scenario where Jimmy Garoppolo fails to pass his physical prior to the start of training camp, Brady and the Raiders might not be left with an option other than the GOAT QB lacing up once again.

While discussing the Garoppolo situation on his show, Pat McAfee and co. were amongst many who floated the idea of Brady having to gear up to save the Raiders in case the Jimmy G deal falls through.
While the possibility of Brady making a comeback remains unlikely, if the 7-time Super Bowl Champion were to attempt a return, he would have to give up his role in the ownership group of the Raiders in accordance with league rules. The final outcome for Brady and the Raiders, however, will eventually fall down to the status of Jimmy Garoppolo.

What exactly happened to Jimmy G?
While Garoppolo was amongst the top free-agent prospects entering the offseason, the question marks surrounding the QB were always his injury concerns. Garoppolo suffered a severe foot injury in Week 13 last season during his tenure with the 49ers which kept him out for the remainder of the season. But the Raiders rolled the dice and decided to put their money and their faith in Garoppolo.
But after reports of the QB failing his physical, his $67.5 Million contract is at stake if he does not pass the physical prior to the start of training camp. According to Addendum G within Jimmy G’s contract, the Raiders have the option to walk away from his contract, without paying a penny, if Garoppolo fails to pass his physical. With just under 45 days until the start of training camp, there is serious concern about the future of Garoppolo and his role with the Raiders. We can only wait and see how the situation eventually pans out.
