Hall of Famer Brett Favre is an NFL legend. With the most consecutive starts in league history, we consider Favre a Green Bay Packers legend along with the likes of Aaron Rodgers. But everything is not as it seems in this world. For the past few years, Favre has been in the midst of the $77 million Mississippi welfare scandal. But the Packers legend sued the people involved in defaming him for his alleged involvement in the welfare scandal.

Out of those people sued by Favre included A-Rod’s best buddy, who thought that the letters from Favre’s lawyers were fake and not indeed real.

In an article by AJ Perez for Front Office Sports, it states that Pat McAfee initially thought that the legal letters he received from the lawyers representing Favre were fake. The legal team representing Brett Favre sent two letters each to Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe. The letters demanded that both personalities retract the statements they made about the Packers’ legend and his ties to the welfare scam.

They also demanded that they formally apologize to Favre for the comments they made. In the two letters McAfee received, it also demanded that the host should delete all the episodes that referenced Brett Favre and the scandal.

Recently, the Hall of Famer Favre filed defamatory lawsuits against Shannon Sharpe, Pat McAfee, and Shad White, who is the Mississippi state auditor. They filed the lawsuit over allegations of false and defamatory statements made against Favre and his ties to the welfare scandal.

What is the Mississippi Welfare scandal?

The welfare scandal refers to the mishandling of federal funds disbursed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. They made the mishandled funds available to various high-profile personalities, which included Brett Favre. Favre was lobbying for funding for Prevacus, a pharma startup with an unproven concussion treatment. This lobbying led to the access of $2.2 million in federal funds meant for low-income facilities. This was the first link of the former NFL player to the scandal. According to official reports, they funneled more than $77 million of welfare funds through non-profit organizations.
