The Panthers WR Robbie Anderson was not so fond of his new QB Baker Mayfield. He appeared to back the Panthers’ QB Sam Darnold ahead of Mayfield before finalizing the trade. But later, Anderson questions and points out flaws in Darnold’s development as a quarterback with the Carolina Panthers. It paved the way for Mayfield, who has been proficient at being a starting QB in games since his draft in 2018.
Comparing the development of other QBs in a podcast, Robbie brings in Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Previously, the WR posted a comment on a post that talked about Mayfield’s potential transfer to the Panthers. His response sparked rumors he is not a big fan of the new QB.

Anderson was commenting on a post by an unofficial Panthers news reporting page. He commented, “Nooooo,” on the post, suggesting that the Carolina Panthers are a potential landing spot for Baker Mayfield. Later, it became accurate as Mayfield completed the trade in early July.
Justifying his comment, Anderson mentioned he had his QB’s back and was being a good teammate. But, conversely, in his recent interview, he talks about how the situation with Sam Darnold could have been different. He would have started later, just as Patrick and Lamar did for their franchises.
What did Robbie say about his QB, and what is the Panthers’ trade deal with Baker Mayfield?
Speaking on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, the Panthers’ WR said, “I feel like his development was all messed up coming into the league. Look at Pat and look at Lamar. They ain’t play right away. I don’t feel like Sam should have played right away. I feel like being in the building, the coaches, I was there, you what I’m saying. It wasn’t right. In his defence, I don’t feel he was developed a 100% correctly.”

Consequently, it speaks to how the Panthers and its players look at Mayfield. The Panthers finally traded the former Browns’ QB to the Panthers on a $15.5 million contract. The Browns will pay $10.5 million while the Panthers will give him $5 million. Most importantly, he is the favorite to start as a QB for his new team.
With the time to come in the next season, how Robbie Anderson plays with his new QB will be exciting to watch. While it is expected that both offensive players will go all out in their performance, it is the first time that the new duo is collaborating.
