The Carolina Panthers had the No.1 overall pick at the 2023 NFL Drafts. And they decided to go with the top QB prospect, Bryce Young, from Alabama. But it is not like the Panthers have a QB need as their top priority. The franchise also brought in veteran QB Andy Dalton on a two-year deal worth up to $17 million, with $8 million of guaranteed money. So maybe drafting Young means letting him learn his way around the NFL under the guidance and mentorship of Dalton?

Despite drafting Young as their No.1 pick, the Panthers made an interesting revelation. And it is a revelation that involves their 5-feet-10 QB draftee from the 2023 Draft.

According to an article by Mike Florio for NBC Sports, it states that Panthers’ GM Scott Fitterer has not come up with a conclusive timeline for when they will play Bryce Young as the starting QB for the franchise. For the time being, they are putting their faith in veteran QB Dalton, who is also called the ‘red rifle’ in the league.

And there seems to be a reason behind the decision. Under Dalton, Bryce Young can grow. As a QB, especially when you are looked at as an undersized prospect, you need to have time to grow and develop your abilities for the league. And Andy Dalton has enough experience in the NFL to show the way to the No.1 draft pick.

The situation is eerily familiar to Dalton when he was the QB1 for the Chicago Bears. The Bears had gone on to bring in Justin Fields as their 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft. And when red rifle injured his knees after two games, Fields got his chance to shine as a starting QB. So what does the future look like for Bryce Young with the Panthers at the moment?

Young might head on to be a future franchise QB prospect

Bryce Young might be a QB, but his small frame has been a topic of discussion throughout the draft. But the young rookie possesses a good vision and processing ability, which lays the foundation for becoming an excellent player. While durability is a cause of concern for Young, given his small stature, he makes it up with his athleticism and pace. And these traits will help him avoid being hit on the field of the NFL. But for the time being, he will begin his NFL journey as a backup QB, similar to the likes of Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, two of the greatest QBs in the league.

Young’s high football IQ could lead to fans witnessing some great plays in the future. But for the time being, it will be Andy Dalton taking charge as the QB1, while the QB from Alabama takes his time to grow into the league and develop his skills for the future.
