A tough offseason awaits for Green Bay Packers. The franchise prepares to bid adieu to one of their all-time greats in Aaron Rodgers by solidifying their current roster. Earlier, Rodgers broke his silence on the much-awaited decision and revealed a move away from the Packers as his ideal choice. And, it seems the team is not taking this silently. Recently, they took a step forward in strengthening their roster for the upcoming season.

As Rodgers revealed during his interaction on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, “There were some conversations around what you gonna do in the offseason, that honestly didn’t have a big barrier on it. Felt it was my last time in Green Bay as a starting quarterback”. Since then, Green Bay has been busy revitalizing its ranks and has retained special-teams standout, Eric Wilson.

Packers focused on special teams

The Packers addressed special teams earlier in the free-agent period by re-signing All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon and tight end, Tyler Davis. The Green Bay franchise continued this trend of assisting their special-teams units, by re-signing linebacker Eric Wilson on Saturday.

Signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent, Wilson went on to make to the playoffs in two of his first three seasons in the NFL. After, moving around the league a bit, Wilson was poached from the Saints’ practice squad by the Packers.

Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed his trust in Wilson’s abilities the very first time he joined the Green Bay Packers locker room, “He’s a really solid defender, and he’s really good on (special) teams, We’re lucky to pick up a guy like that. He’s got a lot of versatility. He can run really well and he’s physical.”

Now all set to retake his role within the Packers team, Wilson has yet another opportunity of proving to the Green Bay top brass that they indeed made the right call.

Rodgers’ next stop?

Aaron Rodgers went on to deem New York as his destination of choice, “I made it clear my intention was to play and to play for the New York Jets, and I haven’t been holding anything up. It’s the compensation that the Packers are trying to get. … The Packers want to move on and have let me know that in so many words.

Rodgers’ decision has forced the Packers to focus on a well-rounded structure for the team and seems like the special units are a big part of their future endeavors.

The Packers also ended up losing a couple of their vital pieces to the New York Jets. One such crucial signing was that of Allen Lazard who signed for a four-year, $44 million deal with the New Yorkers.

Lazard went on to express his delight at Aaron Rodgers making his way to the Jets as well, “Obviously, standing here today, it feels good knowing that 12’s going to be my quarterback again.” He feels that with Rodgers as the starting quarterback and with all the elite starting-caliber receivers around him, Super Bowl is the ceiling for the Jets.
