Aaron Rodgers has had a lackluster season by his own high standards. As the dust settles after the regular season, there are a few questions about him playing in the league again. The iconic QB has already said that he’ll take some time to decide his next move. And now, the Green Bay Packers general manager has broken his silence on the retirement vs. return debate. Rodgers almost turned the season around for the Packers but fell at the last hurdle. But does the franchise want him to return next season for them?
Packers GM looked positive regarding A-Rod comeback
The Packers GM Brian Gutekunst spoke about the future of Aaron Rodgers with the organization in his Friday press conference. Gutekunst believes that the fans haven’t seen the last of Rodgers in a Packers jersey and the QB will return for the next season.

“He’s certainly going to take some time. I think that’s fair. And as we work through this, I think as he takes his time, makes his decision just on his playing career in general, then we’ll get together and move forward that way,” Gutekunst told the press.
The Packers GM said that the organization made a big commitment to Rodgers last season, referring to the huge contract extension. And he certainly doesn’t think it was for just one year. “We made a really big commitment to him last offseason. So I think as we did that, it wasn’t certainly for just this year. So, we’ll — like I said, he’s going to take his time and the communication will be pretty constant as we move forward,” Gutekunst added.
Many have called for the Packers to move on from Rodgers after the team failed to make it to the playoffs this season. But can the organization dump its star, who was the league MVP for the two previous years, after just one average season? Gutekunst certainly doesn’t think so. And does Rodgers deserve axing?
The season for Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers certainly didn’t perform at the level the fans have come to expect from him over the years. But he was the back-to-back MVP just last season. And setting a rhythm with a new core of wide receivers certainly takes a bit of time. Maybe the organization is right to want him back at least for the next season to give him a better shot.

And it’s not that he had a terrible season. He still managed to score 26 passing touchdowns and 3,695 passing yards for the team. Not bad if one forgets that it was Rodgers. And that was when he played more than half of the season with a broken thumb.
