The Metropolis is abuzz with cheers and salutations as Aaron Rodgers became a New York Jets quarterback after a long stretch of negotiations. The time it took to finalize the trade was almost alarming to the Gang Green fans. Many feared that it was just a verbal commitment. However, the Jets organization was never really worried about not securing the 4x league MVP passer for their pocket. It finally happened yesterday. Douglas credited head coach Robert Saleh for building a culture that pulled Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers to New York. The Jets were lacking behind the center with Zach Wilson. And with highly touted offensive and defensive units, Rodgers’ addition boosts the chances of much-awaited postseason success and perhaps a Vince Lombardi trophy to cap it off. “We felt honored a few weeks ago when he said he wanted to be a New York Jet. Felt honored. And felt good about what Robert’s been able to do here. That a player like Aaron Rodgers wants to be here,” Douglas said.
On being asked if Aaron has plans to stay after the 2023 season, Douglas left it up to their quarterback. “I don’t want to put any words in Aaron’s mouth. You guys are going to have the opportunity at the right time to ask him those specific questions,” he added.
Rodgers’ arrival seems to be a boon for Woody Johnson’s franchise as they also cleared up a lot of cap room by restructuring Aaron Rodgers’ salary from his Green Bay Packers contract.

How Aaron Rodgers is helping the Jets financially
Rodgers had a $58.3 million guaranteed option bonus that the New York Jets restructured into a signing bonus. This was mainly to free up considerable cap room to strengthen the other pieces around Rodgers. By doing this, the Jets have freed up $43.7 million in cap space. According to NFL Network Insider, Ian Rapoport, this brings Rodgers’ 2023 cap hit to $15.7 million.
The Jets already roped in Rodgers’ old receiver from Wisconsin, Allen Lazard, who will join Offensive Rookie of the Year, Garrett Wilson in the wideout position. And with the available cap space, Douglas and Johnson will surely bring in more ammunition to help Rodgers. To better equip him to lead them to a championship, 55 years after their last one.
